Your Child's Visits - Four Week Visit

Diet:

If more than 50% breast-fed, Tri-vi-sol vitamins daily (for extra vitamin D)

Sleep:

Newborns usually need to waken every 3-5 hours for a feeding, however by 4 weeks of age your baby should be able to go back to sleep after nighttime feedings.  Keep the room darkened and minimize stimulation/noise at night to reinforce this.

Safety:

Avoid bottle propping
Make sure water heater is no hotter than 120 degrees to prevent scalding
Never hang or pin a pacifier around your infant’s neck, and avoid infant jewelry.

Recommendations:

Encourage tummy time while awake.
Play music or sing to your infant.
Talk and read to him.
Infants prefer faces to all other visual stimuli- they see best at about 12 inches at this age.  They love looking at themselves in a mirror.
