Boy Playing

Your Child's Visits - Nine Month Visit

Diet:

Continue to introduce the sippy cup.
Stage 3 (chunky) purees are appropriate.
Once your infant has a pincer grasp they can start feeding themselves soft small pieces of table foods (cheerios, soft fruit, puff cereals.)  Avoid choking hazards such as raisins, grapes, hot-dogs, popcorn, whole grapes)
NO honey due to risk of botulism.

Flouride supplements as directed (if only on well water)

Sleep:

By 9 months your infant will likely sleep approximately 12 hours at night, and take 2-3 naps per day.  Around this age, some infants start waking frequently at night looking for parental reassurance.  After confirming your infant is OK, minimize any interventions required to get your baby to settle.

Safety:

Never allow your infant to eat while moving about.
Continue to childproof as your infant becomes more mobile.
Avoid hot beverages around your child- they are the source of many SCALD injuries.

Recommendations:

Check car-seat height and weight requirements- if your infant is close to 20 pounds you may need to switch to a rear-facing, convertible toddler seat.
